Privacy Notice
General information
The SPPN only collects personal data that users provide when using its web pages, and only collects the data that it needs to fulfil its tasks. Any stored data is carefully managed and protected against abuse.
Under Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution and under federal data protection law, everyone is entitled to have their privacy protected and to have their personal data protected from abuse. The SPPN complies with these provisions on its web pages and when providing web services.
Where the SPPN website provides links to other providers' websites, the privacy information and policies of those providers apply to their own pages.
As far as parts of or individual wording in this text are/is not, no longer or not completely in accordance with the valid legal situation, the remaining parts are not affected in their content and their validity. This Privacy Notice may be amended at any time without prior notice.
Data collection
User data is collected in two ways. Firstly, it is collected when users provide it, for example by contacting SPPN via email. Other data is automatically recorded when users visit the SPPN website. This may include information such as the user's Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, which pages of the SPPN website are visited, when they are visited and how long they are spent on them, as well as unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data. This usage data is used to create statistical, impersonal evaluations to track trends and improve the information offered by SPPN.
Data handling
a) Retention and erasure
The processing of personal data on the SPPN website is limited to data required for the website to function properly and to provide user-friendly content and services, or to data that users have actively made available to the SPPN. Any personal data collected by the SPPN is only retained for as long as is necessary to fulfil the relevant purpose. However, certain data may be retained for longer to meet statutory requirements or other obligations.
b) Data stored when completing a form
The SPPN refrains from using a contact form. This is to avoid the collection of personal data via the website. Any information received by the SPPN is usually provided on a voluntary basis. This data will be erased no later than when the statutory retention period expires.
c) Data stored for the purpose of web analysis
If a user accesses the SPPN's website and web services, usage data will be stored and evaluated using web analysis tools. The SPPN does this to help it continuously improve its communication methods. The SPPN uses Wix Analytics (Website Analytics | Track Your Site’s Performance | Wix.com) for web analysis not related to specific persons. The usage data obtained is used exclusively for web analysis; they are not shared or combined with other data records.
d) Cookies
Cookies are used on the SPPN website in order to make the user experience more enjoyable and to enable certain functions such as web analysis. Cookies are small text files that are stored on the user’s computer. Most of the cookies used (session cookies) are deleted from the user’s hard disk at the end of the browser session. Other cookies remain on the user’s computer and enable the user to be recognised again upon a next visit (permanent cookies).
Users can prevent cookies from being stored by restricting or deactivating their browser's cookie storage and reading functions. Please note that disabling cookies will prevent the use of certain website functions.

e) Data disclosure
The SPPN or Agroscope, the host institute, do not sell or rent user information to third parties. The SPPN may share information with third-party service providers who perform functions on its behalf, such as website hosting and data analysis. These third parties are required to keep the information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which it was disclosed.
Specifically, the SPPN website is hosted on the Wix.com platform. User usage data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. Wix.com stores user data on secure servers behind a firewall.
The SPPN may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to a request from a law enforcement agency.
f) Social media and other third party services
The SPPN manages miscellaneous accounts and profiles on social media (currently including LinkedIN). These pages and services are offered and operated by third parties. All of these pages have their own data protection provisions. In addition, third-party services, such as those provided by YouTube and Google Maps may be directly embedded into SPPN web pages. These providers also use cookies, etc. When the SPPN web pages are used, the user’s data is automatically transmitted to these companies. In such cases, the data protection provisions of the provider concerned expressly apply. Users must be aware that data is collected via these services and may also be passed on to third parties. If users also have an account with the service concerned, the operator may assign the information transmitted directly to the personal account concerned.
The SPPN has no influence over the collection of data or its further use by these operators. The SPPN has no knowledge of how much data they store, where they store it and how long, the extent to which they comply with duties to erase data, the analyses they make of the data, the links they make to the data and to whom they pass on the data.
The most important third-party services used on the SPPN web pages are:
YouTube: As soon as you call up the SPPN webpage that has a YouTube video embedded in it, a connection is established with the YouTube servers, and plug-ins from YouTube (YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA; subsidiary of Google LLC) are used from time to time. YouTube receives information on which page was visited from which IP address.
Google Maps: The Google Maps map service provided by Google LLC (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA) is used from time to time in order to display interactive maps and to provide directions to locations. If you use Google Maps, information on your use (e.g. IP address) may be saved and sent to a Google server in the USA.
Google reCaptcha: Under the name reCaptcha, Google LLC operates services that may recognise and prevent automated actions on websites. Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Microsoft 365: Microsoft 365 services (e.g. Forms, Teams; Microsoft Corp., One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052-6399, USA) are used for a variety of tasks (forms, webinars, collaborations). Information on how user data is handled can be found in Microsoft's privacy statement and terms of use (Microsoft Privacy Statement – Microsoft privacy).
User rights
Users have the right to request information on the processing of their personal data by the SPPN at any time. For this purpose, users are requested to contact the National Coordinator. Users may have further statutory rights, such as the right to have their data erased or corrected, to restrict data processing and to transmit their data.
Data security
Upon visiting the SPPN website, encrypted data communication is used based on TLS in conjunction with the highest encryption level supported by the user’s browser. The user can see whether a page on the website is being transmitted in encrypted form by checking the browser’s indication for such purpose (e.g. the lock symbol displayed in the address bar of the browser is closed).
In addition, the SPPN and Agroscope, as the host institute, use suitable technical and organisational security measures when processing data to protect it against accidental or wilful manipulation, partial or complete loss, destruction, or unauthorised access by third parties.
The SPPN website is hosted on the Wix.com platform. User usage data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. They store user data on secure servers behind a firewall.
The security of user data is important to the SPPN and Agroscope, as the host institute, but it must be remembered that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While the SPPN strives to use commercially acceptable means to protect Personal Data, its absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
